We currently run two annual Research Competitions: Global Development Network (GDN) Regional Research Competition and FEMISE Research Competition. The two competitions are open to ERF and to non-ERF affiliates. They provide research grants with the aim of generating rigorous and relevant research on the ERF region and uncovering new talent. The selection process is made by anonymous referees without discrimination.
Global Development Network (GDN) Regional Research Competition (RRC)
The GDN RRC competition has traditionally focused on five themes: macroeconomics/finance, international economics, labor and human development, microeconomics (including infrastructure and different sectors), and institutional economics. More recently, the call for papers was narrowed down to one broad theme, which will be changed annually as the focus shifts to other topics. So far, there have been seven rounds of RRC, where we disbursed more than $1.5 million and awarded 69 grants. The outcome of research in these rounds has been published by ERF either as Working Papers or as Edited Volumes .
FEMISE Research Competition
This annual competition is supported by the European Union, and is coordinated jointly by ERF and the Institut de la Méditerranée (IM) under the umbrella of the FEMISE network (an NGO in its own right created by ERF and IM). The focus is primarily on the EU-Med relationship. The competition is open to the member institutions of FEMISE, which number 41 institutions from Europe and 33 institutions from the Southern Countries.
