Abstract This research project analyzes the political economy of trade policy in Egypt and Morocco. The main objective is to determine the factors that influence the design and implementation of trade policy in selected industries in the two countries, as well as to suggest alternative scenarios for organization and management of relations between the state and the business sector within a conflict-laden trade liberalization context. Egypt and Morocco were selected as pilot countries with the possible extension of the project in the future to include other Middle East and North Africa countries.
