The World Bank is seeking a Researcher to collaborate on a Microfinance Evaluation. These World Bank researchers are collaborating with the Egyptian Social Fund for Development to evaluate the impact of microfinance on microenterprises and households in Egypt’s poorest 1000 villages. We would very much like to benefit from local expertise, and to give Egyptian researchers the chance to participate in this exciting research. We are therefore seeking a researcher to be a collaborator in this research. This could either be a faculty member, or a graduate student. We are looking for someone with a good research mind who is excited and interested about collaborating on high quality research using modern impact evaluation methodologies. Ideally the person we choose to work with would have many of the following characteristics: - Experience working with household surveys or firm surveys in Egypt
- Experience actually implementing surveys in Egypt
- Have done some research on microenterprises, poor villages, female-headed households, or financial markets in Egypt
- Have taken courses in econometrics, labor economics, and development economics
- Have some understanding of what is meant by impact evaluation, and a willingness to be involved in a randomized experiment
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Be well-organized, and happy to be involved in a number of aspects of the design and implementation of the project, such as helping in survey design and testing, helping work with a survey firm to ensure data collection proceeds smoothly, helping in analysis and writing of the research papers.
- Enthusiastic and excited about the chance to work on a project like this.
One of the goals of this work is to also develop and improve local capacity. We therefore do not expect you to necessary fulfill all of these criteria, and will be happy to talk to interested researchers who only meet some of these desired characteristics.
